Writing Blogs

I don’t know a lot about writing blogs, in fact, this is the first one I’ve written. I have received some very good advice from others who do blog. Some of this advice has come from people I know and some of it from reading articles.

The thought of writing a blog has, in the past, seemed very daunting to me. After all, what do I know about writing a blog? I know more than I think I do! I am my worst enemy and when I chose to get out of my own way, it somehow became a little easier.

I’ve learned that posting a blog can be either a re-post of someone else’s brilliant post, it can be a lengthy article that has been broken down into smaller parts, or it can be your own original content (scary thought). I’ve discovered the hardest part is not the writing, it’s the question of, what do I write about?

Blogs can be business related, you can share a little about yourself personally, they can be inspirational, or a great “funny” you’ve found. The important thing is to be consistent. Once you start, determine how often you want to post, schedule your posts in advance, and hope others like what you post enough to like, comment, share, etc.

Regarding number of posts, there isn’t a magic number for how many to publish per week or per month. However, publish too many and you could be deemed annoying. publish too few and your posts may get lost in the up-to-the-minute noise of everyone else.

Kissmetrics produced a 3-part article “The Science of Social Timing”. In the third part, "Timing and Blogging" (https://blog.kissmetrics.com/science-of-social-timing-3/), they suggest timing is important. Posting in the mornings between 10 AM and 12 PM, and mid-week or on Saturdays generates higher engagement. Bottom line, post as frequently as you want, vary your content, schedule the time for posting to incite the highest reader engagement, and post consistently. Happy blogging!
